An Important Reminder

We loved our friend’s birthday party. All the fun and fellowship was worth driving nearly an hour to get there. But the fun was dampened when we got home and realized that I had left my jacket at the party.

The next day, I had to make the 2-hour journey all over again. I’ve forgotten and left behind many things: jackets, shoes, iPads, laptops, wallets, guitars, and phones. I choose to believe it’s because I’m always thinking about more lofty ideas, or I am distracted by the onslaught of the enemy’s activity in our world, or that I’ve remembered and stored so much brain data that my mental hard drive is full. I know I am not “absent-minded.” I have the mind of Christ. I know that I have a great memory, but I have to be reminded of important things, especially when so many other things vie for my attention. So I set notifications and alarms on my phone. I look at my calendar, and I constantly remind Trace and others to remember to remind me to remember.

As much as I need reminding about my possessions, I need to be reminded about the greatest possessions we have: our faith IN Jesus, the faith OF Jesus, all of God’s promises, and the Holy Spirit. When we remind ourselves of God’s word, it re-minds us. Praying and confessing the Word with our minds reinforces God’s will in our lives. Praying in the Spirit re-minds us as well.

Here are some simple re-minders to strengthen us, renew us, and help us be transformed by the renewing of our mind:

  • We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. Romans 8:37

  • Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.1 John 4:4

  • No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. Isaiah 54:17

  • Those who are with us are more than those who are with them . . . For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 2 Kings 6:16, Psalm 91:11

  • All things are possible to him who believes. Mark  9:23

  • [God] is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.  Eph 3:20

  • So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11
