Fire Power

Joel Balin

Updated: Feb 4

We’ve prayed many prayers recently for a fresh fire of the Holy Spirit. We’ve had our hearts burn within us as we experienced the fire of God’s presence. At the same time, we’ve recognized that unholy fires are raging throughout the world.

A few days ago, the largest fire ever recorded in CA started burning. The fires in the natural speak so much to the fires in the spiritual. A friend shared a word they had from 2009 that said, “There is a wildfire coming. I am bringing it. Be a part of it… Lead youth into the Holy fire that burns in hearts.”

God is indeed turning up the fire among youth, young adults, and seasoned saints as well. We’re hearing bold, on-fire testimonies from athletes, business people, celebrities, journalists, politicians, media, everyday people, and even pastors who are ablaze with the presence of God. As Wednesday Warriors founder, Dwight Keith, used to say, “If that doesn't light your fire, your wood’s wet.”

At the same time, the fires of hell are trying to burn down the house. We have leaders willing to “burn his own nation to the ground to rule over the ashes.”  While others, like Nero, fiddle around while their city, country, or culture is burning down.

The worst fires in LA’s history are devastating the entertainment capital of the world. Movies, television shows, and music from LA, the epicenter of the entertainment and pornography industries, have fueled worldwide sexual immorality, rebellion, violence, breakdown of the family, pedophilia, abortion, addictions, perversion, and sex trafficking.

Because of the same types of wickedness, ”the Lord made burning sulfur and fire rain out of heaven on Sodom and Gomorrah.”  Genesis 19:24

On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. Psalm 11:6

In the midst of judgment, we should always cry out for mercy, for “mercy triumphs over judgment.” When the Roman culture was steeped in decadence and brutality, and the Jews were steeped in godless religion, God didn’t send fires of destruction. He sent Jesus, who baptized his believers with the Holy Spirit and with fire. As we pray for the victims of the LA fires and the scorching Santa Ana winds, let’s be consumed with:

  • Passion Fire

“Weren’t our hearts on fire when he spoke to us along the road and when he explained the scriptures for us?” Luke 24:32

  • Empowering Fire

John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Luke 3:16

You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses… They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8, 2:3

  • Refining Fire

For He is like a refiner’s fire and like launderer’s soap [which removes impurities and uncleanness]. Malachi 3:2 AMP

  • Consuming Fire

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”

Psalm 97:3-4 Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side.

  • Commissioning Fire

Ex 3:2 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.
