The Waters Have Parted! Now What?

Like the Red Sea parting under Moses, the American colonists escaped the tyranny of the British, who tried to keep them from freely worshipping  God and oppressed them culturally and financially. They defeated an overwhelming army and went on to quickly establish the greatest nation on earth, unlike the Israelites, who wandered around aimlessly for 40 years, grumbling and complaining in unbelief.

Today, like the second parting of the waters under Joshua, America has been wandering around in a cultural and spiritual desert. However, we saw the waters part a week ago as we entered into a Promised Land. What happens after the waters part makes the difference between us being in a desert or occupying a Promised Land.

So, “Now what?” Where do we go from here in light of being “unburdened by what has been?” The biblical account of Joshua and the Israelites crossing over into the Promised Land gives us tremendous direction as the people of God in the post-election season:

  • Keep moving.  This political victory, though significant, does not mean that we can rest on our laurels, stop in our tracks, or let our guard down. We must keep moving and fighting to fully possess the land God has given us. The Lord said, “I will give you every place where you set your foot.” Joshua 1:3

We need to set our feet, our hands, our mouths, and our prayers to bring the kingdom into our workplaces, schools, social media, communities, and our churches. Christians tend to give up when things are tough and get complacent when circumstances seem good. Jerry Falwell said:

One thing I have learned about Christians, having organized them for years - when they lose, Though we had lost significant ground in recent years, we have turned the tide of Falwell’s observation by pressing through to our recent victory. Now that we’ve won, let’s keep pressing on and not be quitters.

Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. Galatians 6:9

Press on toward the goal to win the prize … Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. Phil 3:14, 1 Cor 15:58

If we change the government and don’t change the people, the people will end up changing the government back. If we change laws but don’t change hearts, then the unchanged hearts will change the changed laws back again. ~ Jonathan Cahn

  • Tag You’re It. Before the people of God crossed into the Promised Land, Moses and all those who were over twenty when they left Egypt had died. The mantle fell to Joshua and Caleb and all the remaining Israelites who were under 20 when they left Egypt.

The Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide:  “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites.” Joshua 1:1-2

A number of significant spiritual leaders have passed away or fallen away in recent years. It is now up to us to possess the land. We still have inspiring men and women to lead us, but we must all pray and act to see God’s word and His Spirit prevail in great revival and reformation.

  • Be strong and courageous. We will need supernatural strength to withstand the attacks and resistance of the enemy. The US election and our election by God through Jesus gives us the authority to take back our families, our culture, our businesses, and the government, The enemy won’t readily give up control, but if we strengthen ourselves and are obedient, we will succeed.

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it … that you may be successful wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7

  • Be prepared for more battles: God gave the Israelites the Promised Land, but it took them 13 battles to occupy after they crossed into it. Before they could build, they had to clear the land. It took obedience, like marching around Jericho seven times, worshipping in God’s presence, like the blowing of the trumpets in front of the arc, and boldly declaring the word, like the shouts outside the walls of Jericho.

They got up at daybreak and marched around the city … The seventh time around … at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city. Joshua 6:15,20

We still have battles to fight, but God still declares:

“Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

  • Consecrate ourselves. We will not be able to see the revival and reformation God intends unless we circumcise our hearts and make sure we are putting God first. God is using this political victory to give us unprecedented freedoms to usher in spiritual and cultural transformation. But we can’t give what we don’t have.

Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” Joshua said to the priests, “Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people.” So they took it up and went ahead of them. Joshua 3:5-6

  • The people of God must make sure we are consecrated to God through repentance, obedience, dedication, and being filled with the Holy Spirit. Pastors and other spiritual leaders must ensure that they lead with God's presence and purposes as their first priority.

  • Occupy till I come. The first thing God said to Adam and Eve was a directive to, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion” Genesis 1:28 Nearly every policy that we just voted ourselves out from under opposed that directive and Jesus’ instruction to “occupy till I come.”  Luke 19:13. From the fruitfulness-destroying radical LGBTQ+ agenda to the family-destroying programs to the promotion of abortion to the climate change hoax to the contamination of our food, the radical left undermines every principle God has laid out for us in scripture. We have an opportunity to recapture it with a spiritual revival and restoration of our Judeo-Christian-based Republic.

Occupy till I come … don’t just sit down and say “The Lord’s coming, I’m just going to sit here and wait for his coming,” … Go back to your home. Go back to your church. Go back to your social obligations and work as you’ve never worked. “Occupy till I come” … Get involved in the world in which we’re living as a light and a shining testimony for Christ. ~ Billy Graham
